Class of 1970 Accomplishments

• Many Classmates teach and do research as professors at Cornell and other
schools
|
|
• There are many successful lawyers practicing corporate and private law, plus
many who have gone into government service including judges and Counsel to a Governor
|
|
• Classmates have been effective doctors and nurses in many specialties, helping
thousands medically
|
|
• Co-invention of the insulin pump and other implantable medical devices
|
|
• Appointments to several positions by the Hong Kong government
|
|
• Credit for over 500 patents and winning the Draper Prize, the Engineering
equivalent of the Nobel, for developing biomedical solutions to medical problems
|
|
• Founding many companies, including SoBe soft drinks and The Water Initiative
which aims to obliterate water pollution
|
|
• Receipt of the Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year Award
|
|
• Leadership in the fight for the rights of the terminally ill to die with
dignity
|
|
• Provision of the lead gift ($5M) to launch Cornell’s Faculty Renewal Initiative
|
|
• Writing and production of many television shows including the Law & Order
series, Blue Bloods, JAG, and receipt of an Emmy

• Oversight of the well-endowed Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation

still answers students’ questions

• Coaching the Big Red Hockey Team to 230 victories over 12 seasons

• Leading the Marine Corps University after rising to the rank of 3 Star General

• Development of the first computer to switch laser light instead of electronic
current

• Managing the Santa Monica Farmers Markets, one of the biggest and busiest
in America

• Election to Congress for 9 terms (1975 – 1993)
